Technical
Information
The development of Pall-Ex`s much anticipated purpose-built hub
in Leicestershire is well on track. (Operational end of March). The
new hub will encompass 200,000 sq ft of distribution warehouse.
Further plans include a railhead which will give Pall-Ex an alternative
method of transporting goods, particularly overnight, once legislation
changes such as the working time directive comes into force.
IT
DIPTEC -We are shortly bringing on line an operating scanning
system linked to Pall IT. Allowing on line web-tracking for POD`s.
Pall-Ex
Linkline Express Services Ltd was asked to become a member of Pall-Ex
in 1996. Being a member of Pall-Ex means the company specialises
in the delivery of specialised freight throughout the UK. This means
it can offer an extensive range of services to its customers. We
have a single and multi-pallet delivery system offering next day,
two-three day economy and timed options. To understand how this
works it is essential to look at the Pall-Ex system.
Pall-Ex
UK Ltd was started after its founder recognised the problems that
companies were having in moving small pallet consignments economically.
This also stemmed from the growing trend that had appeared for 'Just-in-time'
deliveries.
The
solution came in the form of a nationwide network of hauliers operating
around a centrally-based hub. This hub, based in the East Midlands,
is the operational and administrative focus for all the member companies.
All of them are allocated an area surrounding their depot within
which they are responsible for collection and deliveries, After
collecting freight from their own areas and loading them onto their
trunk vehicle, the members tranship the freight into the Pall-Ex
hub at a set time each evening.
After
checking, the pallets are unloaded and placed in the area allocated
for the destination depot. Vehicles are then reloaded with pallets
for their own delivery area, and after verification that all is
correct, they return to their depot in time to facilitate deliveries
efficiently. By consolidating full loads of small pallet consignments,
and using one or two vehicles via one central drop and collection
point the savings are immense. In addition these same vehicles return
to their depots fully laden with deliveries for their own area.
This makes the system not only economic, but also environmentally
friendly.
Developments
The company's continuing success is reliant upon the manner in which
it always remains ready to adapt, while retaining its core quality
of service. Complacency, like failure, is not an option. Technical
advances in IT, increased warehouse facilities and fleet additions
will help maintain our position as market leaders.
